Ben Sommer Covers Foster The People

On our Twitter account, we do a feature that every Thursday we feature a cover song. Some of them are covers you have heard, some aren't. Some are covers of well known songs by relatively obscure people. But I am bringing the cover goodness to the website and featuring Ben Sommer's cover of Pumped Up Kicks.

Foster The People are hipsters, who use keyboards and vocal effects IRONICALLY. Their video for Pumped Up Kicks has received 39 million views probably because someone programmed a bot to continue to refresh their YouTube video after 4:00 minutes.

Ben Sommer has set out on becoming more famous by covering a popular song on YouTube, but in an ironic Prog-metal way. In Ben's video you will see a lot of things Foster The People don't have. Sheet music, bald men (sometimes with a beard sometimes without), scented candles on the computer desk, and no women. If that doesn't showcase progressive metal, I don't know what would.

I am torn by posting this video because I made a quick bet with Ben based on this song. He said it was going to make him famous. I called bullshit. We never set our qualifications for famous. So I will consider this video/song a success if the YouTube views go over 250k in a year. I am no mathmagican, but that's .6% of the views Foster the People received in less than a year. I figure .6% is a good number since that is about the error rate on KISS Kondoms (they are 99.4% effective). That is a long introduction, so here is Ben Sommer's cover for #CoverThursday.
