Foo Fighters Win at VMA's and New Music Monday
Last night the MTV Video Music Awards were broadcast. We don't really cover award shows because they are more political or sales based than actual skill/artist based and the MTV Video Awards are even more of a joke. The MTV Video Awards are the worst of the worst since the station doesn't play music videos anymore, yet gives an award for the video.
I was monitoring Twitter during the show and saw this Twat from the Foo Fighters:
Holy guacamole, we just won an mtv award, turns out rock and roll is still alive. thx everybody.
I don't think this is a true statement. Rock n' roll has never been more dead and I say this as a hardcore rock n' roller. Rock stations are dying every day (link), corporate rock n' roll is dominating the airwaves (Seether, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Nickelback, Coldplay), and hard working, up-start bands are having trouble finding a real voice or hold here in the United States.
Rock has gone underground and you will have to rely on your friends and us to give you the best rock n' roll music out there. We won't let good rock n' roll go unfound. It is important now, more than ever, to support these hard working artists as the industry has turned to disposable pop, dance hip-hop, and whatever the fuck Lady Gags is.
To help you locate great rock n' roll, I have started a brand new feature on our Twitter. Every Monday, I will bring you a brand new artist, you may not have heard about or an artist we love that has released a new video or song. Sometimes, I might be really lazy and just choose a song from a well known band that isn't played that often or that you may have forgotten. It is our attempt to help you locate great rock n' roll.
With this feature, I am not going to be discerning. By that I mean, I may not necessarily like the music I am posting, but I think they are worth a shot and you might fall in love with them. I am also not going to limit New Music Monday to just rock n' roll. It could be singer/songwriter, jazz, whatever.
If you're a band and you want to be featured on New Music Monday, email us or send us a direct message on Twitter asking to be featured. Right now, I am looking for great artists to be part of this feature so act fast before the list grows too much.
As if you needed more reason to follow us on Twitter, we have a segment where every Thursday we feature a cover song. The only restriction here is that the song covered has to be a rock band. But if you have a New Wave cover of Pink Floyd's Money, I'd love to hear it. Again, email us with your thoughts or great covers.
