ZZ Top Tribute Album Details Released
Tribute albums are loved by record labels. They get to promote an older artists who already has an active fanbase with younger bands who have fanbases of their own. The cross pollination of the two is a win-win for each record label.
For the artists, it's fun to hear your songs interpreted by others. For the bands pay homage, it is first come first served. We have done a few intereviews with bands who appeared on cover and tribute albums and they all say the same thing. "Get there first."
The record label picks maybe 10 songs that they want to feature on the tribute/cover album and hand selects a few bands. The first band to accept gets to choose what song they want to do..and so on until all ten songs have been selected. So you may not have wanted to cover ZZ Top's Legs, but you got there last.
A bunch of cool artists, and some real duds, are paying tribute to legendary American rock n' roller ZZ Top with a tribute album entitled A Tribute From Friends.
01. THE M.O.B. (Mick Fleetwood, Steven Tyler, Jonny Lang & John McVie) - "Sharp Dressed Man"
Kicking the album off is a super group called MOB. MOB contains Mick Fleetwood, Steven Tyler, Jonny Lang, and John McVie. They will be covering Sharp Dressed Man. An interesting choice, guaranteed to be on an ZZ Top tribute album, and I am really interested in how this collection of individuals sounds.
Mastodon covers Just Got Paid - awesome!
Wolfmother covers Cheap Sunglasses - promising!
Wyclef Jean covers Rough Boy - interesting choice on both sides!
And then the album takes a dive directly into the shitter.
Daughtry covers Waitin for the bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago - GREAT two SONG from Tres Hombres! Suck artist!
Coheed & Cambria pisses on Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers - Fuck me
Filter - Gimme All Your Lovin - you kidding me?
Nickelback - Legs - Castrate me
There should be absolutely zero chance where Nickelback covers ZZ Top and if that world exists, I hope it is run by President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho and the Brawndo organization.
