Layne Staley Would Have Been 44 Today
Layne Staley would have been 44 today and I miss him more today than usual. Every day I listen to an Alice in Chains song through random shuffle on my iPod. If it doesn't come up, I always select one and listen.
Layne's voice truly turned something hideous into beauty. The topics of drug abuse, soldiers dying, and loss of life were made hauntingly gorgeous by his unique sounding voice and harmonizing with Jerry Cantrell. There won't be another vocalist like Layne even though so many imitate him.
I try to make this announcement on significant birthday/death dates of people who died of drug abuse (Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley especially). If you are taking drugs like heroin, cocaine, crack, meth, etc, you need to seek help. Drug abuse is a disease and you need to seek help for that disease because it will kill you eventually.
Layne was so dope sick by the end of his life he, at 6'1, weighed 86 lbs. He tried to get help and just couldn't kick the habit whether that was because of his lousy father or whatever. Please seek help from any of the following organizations. They should be able to provide you with resources in your area that can help you get onto the road to recovery.

Also contact your local Health and Social Services Organization to get the help you need. You may feel like there is no hope for you, but there is hope. There's always hope...hell I got laid over the weekend....so there's gotta be hope for you.

In honor of Layne, here is It Ain't Like That live from The Moore.

Layne changed my life with his insightful and surreal music and lyrics. I only wished he could have stuck around to make more to listen to for future generations. I wascompelled tocompose a portrait of him In Memoriam recently on the anniversary of his death on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspotcom/2011/04/in-memoriam-kurt-cobain-and-lane-staley.html Drop in and tell me your memories of his music and how it’s affected you.
