Greatest Cover of Living After Midnight Ever?
I received an email today touting the latest cover by Disturbed as the "second greatest cover" version of Living After Midnight. I assume he meant the first cover version would be the current Judas Priest touring band covering it, since KK isn't there. Here is the Disturbed version:
The background music isn't bad, but Drainman's voice sounds awful like a 1,000 kittens were being drowned in a sticky pool of semen. I enjoyed the Painkiller opening, but those vocals are nails on chalkboard.
I submit OTHER cover versions of this song for your consideration as the "second greatest cover" version of this song:
Mikkey Dee of Motorhead and Sara Lofgren with a ridiculous drum solo in the middle. Her vocals are better than Drainman's by far. She is hotter, but makes the mistake of wearing a Motorhead shirt while playing with Motorhead's Mikkey Dee.
LA Guns took a stab at the Judas Priest classic and it too sounds better than Disturbed's version.
Of course, Tim "Ripper" Owens has a great cover, but never recorded a version of it. His version is a more hard rocking version of the song, similar to the Disturbed cover, but with Judas Priest backing him. For some reason, this version, which is awesome, can't be embedded or my patience wasn't long enough to wait. Hear it here.
The Donnas did a pretty close rendition of the song that again has a better vocal than the Disturbed version.
Anthrax has a good version, it starts a bit later than it should in this video. I tried to embed this to start at a certain timestamp. Let's see if this works:
