On This Date Guns N' Roses Released Appetite For Destruction
On July 21, 1987, a little unknown band released Appetite for Destruction. They had no idea how big and how influential they would become. I am not going to get overly sentimental on this, only the 24th anniversary. I will save the vaginal squirting for the 25th anniversary.
To say that Appetite had an influence on the rock scene, is a gross understatement. In the 70's, prog rock bands became the norm. Big stage shows, sweeping thematic albums, and mellotrons. The Ramones came a long with a stripped down, in your face, punk rock that was the antithesis of prog rock.
The 80s landscape was very similar to the 70s, with hair metal, with its ambiguously looking male frontmen, big produced records. Then Guns N' Roses came onto the scene and blew everyone away with their border line chaotic live acts, dangerous blues riffs, and balls to the wall mentality.
Appetite for Destruction is a perfect record, not one bad song or filler song on it. The album clocks in under and hour and by the end you are ready to fuck some ass and kick some pussy. Or something like that.
I can't pick one song off it to showcase, so I'll choose the lead single, Welcome to the Jungle.
Well I said I wasn't going to gush, but still wound up leaving a heavy snail trail on my leather seat. Lick it up!
