James Durbin Hangs with Sebastian Bach
James Durbin is living the life I wanted to live as a teenager. You might know James Durbin as the blinking guy from American Idol, but he was a metal head at heart. I thought his singing was terrible, but he had showmanship. It reminded me of a young Craig Wettner back in my parents basement as I set up my 50 blow up dolls to watch me perform Soundgarden classics using my dad's microphone stands. It was all fun and games until I stepped on the round bottom of the mic stand and it came rocketing back into my head giving me a concussion. I then decided to leave such things to the professionals.
Anyway, Durbin got to sing with Judas Priest on the American Idol finale and now gets to hang out with Sebastian Bach. Bach on Facebook: "Interesting. Hanging with James Durbin from 'American Idol'. He tells me he wanted to sing [the Skid Row song] '18 And Life' on 'American Idol' but was told he's not allowed to, it's 'not cleared.' Who makes these decisions and why? How? He was told he could do a Bon Jovi song but not Skid Row. Very interesting. And shitty."
Bach actually loves this site and I have no idea why. We were featured exclusively on his website for an interview we did with him a while back (Go way back to that interview here). We then hung with Bach for a bit in Hershey, but that is beside the point.
Who makes the decisions on what is or isn't licensed on American Idol. I would have to think any record company would license out any of their music for the nation's number one rated show. Every song that is sung on the show bounces around iTunes top list the few days following the show. I would have to think Idol didn't try real hard to get the license for Durbin to play 18 and Life. Fuck you Idol, that song is awesome.
I am sure we will all forget about James Durbin in two to three years, so live it up while you can James the music biz is fickle and unkind...just like my last girlfriend. I am sorry I couldn't carry your fat ass over your apartment threshold. Who am I Arnold Schwarzenegger? Not only am I weak puke who can barely lift himself out of bed, I certainly can't lift a dolled up pig.
In other Bach news, he is getting ready to release a new solo album, which I can only hope sounds similar to Angel Down. That record was underrated as an album. It really had something for everyone, southern sludge, metal, glam, etc. This new album will be called Kicking and Screaming and will be in stores on September 27. Here is a taste of Angel Down featuring Bach and Axl Rose called (Love Is) a Bitchslap.
