Lady Gaga Sells 1.1 Million in Record Sales

Not since 50c has someone sell over a million records in one week, but Lady Gaga gets to claim that on her Curriculum Vitae this week. The Gags sold 1.1 million copies of her new album Born This Way, which means some of you reading this post bought her album and for shame.

Not mentioned in a lot of the articles covering this story is the fact Gags offered up her latest disasterpiece for $0.99 on Amazon. One buck for an entire album is a great price to pay for people who were curious about her music or bought into the hype of the album. If you paid over $0.99 for the album, you are either a hardcore fan or a fool. Even I considered plunking down a buck to hear the album, but I am so far behind on other album reviews, I have no time to listen to another Ibiza dance/techno album with vocals.

I have nothing against her and I admire her ability to market herself. She has not come up with anything original at all - her songs are like Madonna's tunes and her unusual garb is nothing Bowie didn't do 30-40 years prior. However she has marketed herself extremely well and is able to run the fine line between pop star and musician.

The shelf life of a pop star is only a few years, when the target demographic grows up and realizes their star is nothing more than a fabricated shell created to sell records. Gaga will be gone in a few years because people will tire of the techno dance beat and move onto something else. I am hoping for hardcore rap like the late 90s. That was fun to hear to top 40 radio stations playing Tupac.

She won't really even have a lasting impact on the record industry because she is a derivative. But fans of hers can enjoy the ride and then they will grow up and move on to Panic at the Disco or some emo hipster band.

I love this album cover! It shows the chameleon-esque nature of Lady Gaga, turning from hermaphrodite to a motorcycle.
