Staind Release Album Title
Staind have revealed the name of their upcoming seventh album...Seven. Seven will be out later in the year and Mike Mushok had this to say about the album:
It's completely different than the last record [2008's 'The Illusion Of Progress']. It's more of a throwback to where we came from. You know, 'Dysfunction' [1999], 'Tormented' [1996] albums . . . [But] I don't think there's any rehashed riffs; I definitely think it's fresh. It's a modern-sounding version of a heavy Staind record. It's pretty cool.
Oh god, if I had a penny for any time I have heard a band member say that, I wouldn't have to suck dick behind the Exxon at the truck stop to pay for hosting of this damn site. Every band that had a harder, debut and sophomore record always says their future albums are going to sound like that. Staind stopped sounding like Staind immediately following Dysfunction and I blame Fred Durst.
I loved the early Staind after I saw them in a club back in '98 in Boston. I thought their highly introspective and dark lyrical content combined with their heavy sound was certainly different than the boy bands that were dominating the airwaves in the 90s. I welcomed them and even touted them when Dysfunction came out. Mudshovel is an angst riddled song that is as catchy as it is memorable. But then they hooked up with Fred Durst after the 99 Family Values tour and wrote the song Outside. It was extremely popular and fueled Dysfunction's follow up Break the Cycle to sell four million records.
Gone were the tormented days of old and in were the songs about having babies, talking about harsh life on the road, and songs for movie soundtracks. I can't fault them for the change in direction as if they kept their previous sound, I don't think we would be talking about Staind now. But I remember the immediate moment when Staind jumped the shark, my mom called me to inform me she bought the new Staind album (Break the Cycle) and she loved it.
Staind fans were also promised a harder record and then the band released their softest album to date with The Illusion of Progress. So what are you guys to believe? I don't know until the single is released, all I do know is, I won't be buying it. I haven't bought a Staind album since Dysfunction..."homey don't play Staind."
I did see a poignant porn picture that used For You as the back track; I'll have to see if I can drum that porn up. A small insight into my brain, amateur porn that uses music I like or notable rock bands, I tend to keep for lulz.
