Jonathan Demme Filming Neil Young's Toronto Concert for DVD Release

Oscar winning director Jonathan Demme (Philadelphia, Silence of the Lambs, and Rachel Getting Married) will be filming Neil Young's final two dates in Toronto (starting tonight) for a DVD release later this year.

Neil is currently touring in support of his Grammy winning album Le Noise, which is honestly some of his best work to date, albeit a bit strange. It is just as introspective and insightful as he ever was with new themes and commentary on more contemporary topics. The album is more stripped down and intimate and there is a small undercurrent of fragility.

This will mark the third concert film that Demme has filmed with Neil Young, Heart of Gold (filmed in Nashville's Ryman Auditorium) and The Trunk Show (filmed in Upper Darby's Tower Theater).

Sometimes my iPod knows current events and picks the perfect song even while on shuffle. Last Monday with all the Osama Bin Laden death news, my iPod found a lesser known Neil Young album with Booker T & MGs and Crazy Horse entitled Are You Passionate?. On that album, Neil wrote a song for those who lost their life on Flight 93 on September 11. It is poignant song and is haunting as it is catchy.
