Alice in Chains Bassist Mike Starr Dead
We have been following the downward spiral of Mike Starr former bassist of Alice in Chains and predicted his death on this site numerous times. We hoped we would not have to make this announcement because Mike was a talented man, but working with Travis Meeks was just too tough to bear. Mike Starr died today at the young age of 44.
A few weeks ago we told you that Starr was arrested in Utah with prescription drugs on him. Article here. Starr battled depression after losing Layne Staley and just threw himself into drug addiction. He appeared on Celebrity Rehab three times and never really got clean. The story is developing, but I think we can all assume it was drug related. If he wasn't an addict, I would say confidently that the cause of death would have been "working with Travis Meeks."
Jerry Cantrell wrote most of the music for the early Alice in Chains stuff, but Mike Starr did help write this song and, of course, played bass on this song:
