The Strokes Release New Song
A lot of people don't understand why The Strokes are a darling of rock journalists. I will tell you...timing. Jump in your Deloran and set it to 2000. The radio airwaves were dominated by N*Sync, 98 Degrees, Backstreet Boys, etc. It wasn't until 2001 where the nail in the boy band coffin was hammered in and The Strokes were the first band to do it by releasing The Modern Age EP. The EP was a throwback garage rock revival that had an Elvis Costello like vibe with great groove beats, explosive punk bursts, and treasured simplicity not seen since Nirvana closed the coffin on glam like Yokozuna closed the casket on the Undertaker.
The band went on hiatus only to pull it back together and release perhaps their best sounding song ever entitled Under Cover of Darkness. This song has a great 70s shuffle beat with the signature Strokes sound, but the catchy chorus pulled me in immediately. I love this song and can't wait to hear more of what The Strokes have to offer on their album Angles (released on March 18.) You can also see the band play live on Saturday Night Live next Saturday (March 5th).
