SIXX: AM Will Release Another Album
I guess when Nikki Sixx has a book to release or promote, he will use his band Sixx: AM to do it. The process started with The Heroin Diaries and the album of the same name. Now it is This Is Gonna Hurt: Music, Photography And Life Through The Distorted Lens Of Nikki Sixx due in stores on April 12.
The book, part photo chronicle and part journal, will be accompanied by the release of an original soundtrack from SIXX: A.M., an 11-track companion piece to the book, which will hit stores May 3.
The album is highlighted by tracks like the first single, "Lies Of The Beautiful People", which tackles contradictions in society. Contradictions that inspired Nikki and even had Nikki questioning,
"if I find beauty in all these places that most deem 'freakish' and 'macabre,' then why do I also, at times, seek out beauty in what society calls beautiful? Am I contradicting myself or am I able to actually look beneath the surface when others sometimes can't? This is a good question. Make no mistake when I refer to "The lies of beautiful people" I mean what I say but I am also saying look beneath the skin."
YAWN! I found the subject matter of The Heroin Diaries interesting and compelling for what it was. The subsequent musical release was a hard rocking, intellectually stimulating lyrics, and a wholly unique concept. It was almost the proverbial lightning in a bottle. But this just seems like a stupid ploy to sell an album with a book that no one gives a shit about.
You will read a book about a rockstar's trouble with heroin through their own words because you like the artist or the story is compelling. But this whole thing just doesn't seem to mesh well. Of course, as a half assed music journalist, I have to remain open on these things until I see the final product.
There are, however, hardcore fans who live in basements with fake stone wall paper that love everything about Nikki Sixx and would buy his shit if he crapped in Tupperware and sold it. I am sure they will buy this book and album and not look back.
I have seen this addiction up close as Lars Wettner will buy anything that has anything to do with Metallica - shot glasses, bar stools, bobble heads, St. Anger, etc. And to that degree, I have seen a level of fandom move from just buying the albums to permanently scarring your body with band logos and images of people. Like this basement dwelling Nikki Sixx fan who has turned the iconic bass player into the Greed $immons of Motley Crue. You remember what Nikki Sixx was known for...his long tongue right?
