Big Four "Tour" Announcement Disappoints
What was hailed as an actual tour has turned into a destination festival like Rocklahoma or Coachella. The Big Four of thrash were reportedly gearing up for a tour to hit a few major markets across the US. This would have been very similar to what they did with Europe. What we got was "come to Indio, California and see Anthrax, Slayer, Metallica, and Megadeth." Fuck that.
Lars Ulrich spoke with KROQ radio and said that this was a test to judge demand. If there was enough demand they would take the tour on the road maybe next year.
I think I can speak for fans of the festival when I say this announcement was a huge disappointment and a sort of slap in the face. All these are AMERICAN bands. We bought their albums first, we sweat in the pits as these bands made their mark on the music industry, and all we get is a one off festival in their home state?
This is really hard to swallow if you pull in their core demographic - hard working, blue collar types. In this shit economy people don't have the ability to spend hundreds of dollars to fly across the US, buy 100 tickets, and a hotel room. It is more likely that they would spend 100 if not 200 bucks on tickets to see the festival closer to home.
The Empire Polo Club is a giant open space so there may be more bands added to what they are calling the Big Four Festival, but I doubt it. Especially since that wasn't announced today.
Their poster has "America yourprayers demands have been answered." Really assholes? I prayed for a festival like this, but I demand it some place on the East fucking Coast. So you answered nothing for me you pretentious queefs.

Yeah, I get the mystique about the four bands playing together for the first time, but that's not really enough of a draw to get people to drop everything and fly to Cali for a one night gig. I mean, it'll be cool if all four bands are together, but it isn't like the bands are broken up with no chance of ever seeing them. If GnR or Led Zeppelin said "we're back together for one night and one night only. If you want to see it, do it tonight" then people will do it. But just for a stunt to see if their fanbase will support them on a tour? Forget it.I'll just catch them indivdually, drink heavily, and remember it as if I saw them all at once.
