RIP Don Kirshner

If you weren't pretty or suckass enough, Ed Sullivan didn't want anything to do with you. If you were dangerous, edgy, and just a bit albino, you were on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert in the 70s. He was the Ed Sullivan for The Ramones, KISS, Pink Floyd, and The Rolling Stones. Of course, the Stones were on Ed Sullivan, but they were more at home on Rock Concert.

Don died in his home in Boca Raton and I am sorry to see him go. Don was the man who put the music together for bubblegum pop acts like The Archies and The Monkees, but let's forget that dark time and remember the good times. Don Kirshner's Rock Concert aired from 1973-1981 and had performances like the one below by Johnny Winter doing Jumpin Jack Flash, Johnny B Goode, and Silver Train.

UPDATE:

While continuing to look for more Don Kirshner stuff on YouTube, I found this great clip of the New York Dolls on Rock Concert. Kirshner's own introduction to the Dolls is hilarious too.

Of course, here is the entire Rock Concert performance of The Ramones. They don't make shows like this anymore. You were the man Don Kirshner!
