Manson Turns 42
In a topic we have explored before, Marylin Manson's career is over.
Today is his 42 birthday and no one is buying his act anymore. His shock
and awe technique for music lost its luster. No one can be shocked by
the "dark" music he puts out anymore. His last album was a failure
selling only 137,000 copies to date.
Shock rockers have a limited shelf life unless they evolve. Someone like Alice Cooper was able to keep things fresh, his stage show, lyrical content, and persona changed throughout the years and with the times. Manson refused to do that.
GG Allin was the shockiest shock rocker of all time. His shelf life was limited because of the life he lived, drugs, eating shit, and fighting in bikers bars are frowned up by the American Medical Association for long living. His grand plan for leaving this world was to commit suicide on stage, but he never made it to that point.
Manson was dropped by his label last year and some British label picked him up for shits and giggles and is hoping he can at least match the sales figures of 137,000. I will bet he barely cracks 100,000 sales. His demographic has grown up and are now into indie hipster bands like Pomplamoose.
