Why the Outrage Over the American Music Awards?

I forgot the American Music Awards were even on last night until I awoke this morning with a flooded inbox of dashed hopes and crushed reality.

"HOW CAN BEIBER WIN ARTIST OF THE YEAR?!"
cried Greg hailing from the village of Comcast.com. "BEST POP/ROCK MALE VOCALIST WAS BEIBER?!" - screamed Martha from the Gmail neighborhood. "NO ONE IS SINGING LIVE ON THIS SHOW! ARRRRGH" - gruffed Blackbeard.

History lesson: these awards were originally created by Dick Clark as a "major music award" to directly compete with the Grammy's when the Grammy's moved from ABC to CBS back when dinosaurs like Dick Clark ruled the Earth. The nominations in every category are based on radio airplay, album sales, and now, YouTube/Social networking shares/views.

The categories are narrowed down based on the criteria above and then a poll is set up where "the public" votes on the winner from those three choices. Naturally Beiber is going to win because you work and don't have time to vote in such things. However, little girls and functionally cognizant retards can vote and there is where Beiber wins every time. He is the most popular pop artist today. Whether you like him or not, that's a fact.

In a few years, his voice will change and he won't be as popular because his demographic will grow older, start having sex and smoking pot, and then start listening to emo bullshit like My Chemical Romance or The Script or something. He will be a forgotten entity until those girls become 20-somethings and want to attend his reunion concert like New Kids on the Block or Backstreet Boys are doing.

Someone sent me a clip of Beiber's performance on the AMA's last night (I am not linking to it, you can find it on ABC or something). They were incredulous that he was allowed to lip sync. He actually wasn't lip syncing, at least at the piano part because I turned the video OFF after he was done at the piano. He was singing, but he most definitely was NOT playing the piano. There is a moment when he stands up to grab the mic and there are two or three notes played by the piano. FAIL.

As we have stated on here many times before, music industry awards are nothing but a marketing ploy. "Get the Grammy/AMA album of the year now at a new low price of 15.99." They mean nothing in terms of quality of music.
