Many artists work hard to put out a decent product and spend thousands of dollars on production costs on those songs you are stealing. They are entitled to try and recoup some of the money they have invested in themselves. Even the self-produced bands have to be paid for their hard work.

I don't know what it is with people these days. Some time in the 90's there was this switch in mindset that music should be free because of how easily transferred it is. I don't come to your job and expect a blowjob for free; you charge money for that service. You wouldn't dare ask a general contractor to come in and do all the electrical work in your house for free, so why should musicians give their music for free?

Some artists do give away their music for free and that is a choice they have made. Sometimes it is important to give the music away to get people to your shows so they can buy shirts, buttons, patches, and most importantly, bring their girlfriends. That is a cost benefit analysis that the band has done and decided to give to do. You shouldn't decide for the band to hand out the album to 20,000 of your best leechers. (Wikipedia).
