Skillet's Awake Certified Gold
In a telling sign the future of music is doomed, Skillet's album Awake has been certified Gold by the RIAA. In case you are not familiar with the RIAA's nominclature, Gold means the album sales more than 500k copies.
That means 500k people have bought this shitty Christian Three Days Grace knock off band's album. Before you go all "They are so much better than Three Days Grace." let me point you to this article that really breaks down the two bands and their songs for you. Deciphering the Three Days Grace/Skillet Formula. If that article doesn't convince you Skillet and Three Days Grace are corporate swill, nothing will. Shit that rhymed I should write or something.

Selling to Christians is like shooting fish in a barrel. It's not like they can buy anything good like Slipknot or A7X, so when something with some guitars in it comes out, they all rush to the store.

500,000 people bought this album? I'm really surprised by that. I guess niche marketing works. When you market music to an isolated group, they tend to be less picky over the quality. I can see the record executives sitting in the meeting discussing their plan...
