Scott Weiland to Release Christmas Covers Album
Christmas is the time of year when one of the soft rock stations in your
area goes to 24/7 Holiday music. By the time December 25 rolls around
you are tired of the music, assuming you haven't blown your brains out
because you are a lonely drunk in a trailer. If you are the latter, you
are the lucky one.
Christmas is also the time of year when established artists try their hand at holiday standards. Some just go for the quick cash grab and release a song or two on iTunes or Amazon for a buck. However, there are some that are even greedier.
Armed with that information, Scott Weiland is going to release a full Christmas covers album. Weiland released a cover last year of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and it wasn't bad, in fact, it was pretty good. I embedded the song below.
He says he was inspired by the reception that song received and thus a full scale Christmas album will be in stores. He goes on to say:
"It'll be very traditional - strings, upright bass, jazz horns, piano, and guitar.

"I'm sort of picking various versions of these songs... my favorite versions, with a little twist."
I am a big Weiland fan and loved his solo stuff, so I can't see how this will be bad. On his solo stuff he always has more freedom with arrangements and that provides some auditory exploration. I usually toss the Christmas albums in a giant 1.00 bin at the office, but I might keep this around for a while....key words MIGHT.
