Could Squeeze Chris Difford Have a Way to Save Music?

Fans of Squeeze will undoubtedly be familiar with Chris Difford, but many may not be. Squeeze had a big hit with Tempted and a resurgence thanks to Cool for Cats being used in Rock Band.

Difford has come up with a very unique method of distributing his music in the time where internet piracy is at an all time high and record sales are soaring to the toilet.

Difford has a new solo album coming out entitled Cashmere If You Can, which he is releasing one track at a time through Saturday Morning Music Club. Subscribers pay about 30.00 bucks and every Saturday you receive a new multimedia bundle. The bundle includes another track from Cashmere If You Can, a B-side, a video and a few photos.

The album will still be released on CD later this year, but you can get it now, if you subscribe. Why is internet piracy so big? Well people don't want to pay for an album that may only have one or two good songs on it. This is why iTunes has done well. They allow you to buy only the good songs and leave the rest for the artist to think about what they have done.

Give the fans something they won't get on torrent sites and they will buy from you. Fans can get your music from the torrent sites, but probably can't get the B-side or the exclusive photos, or an exclusive video. Give fans MORE for their money and something they can't get elsewhere and they will flock to your music like the salmon of Capistrano.

Up and coming bands, don't have exclusive photos or videos so sadly they have to give their music away for free in hopes people will come to the show and buy merchandise.
