Reading Too Much Into Lyrics Part Three
We have an ongoing series here about reading too much into lyrics. It
used to be about taking older songs and making them hypersexualized.
Take a look at the Chatanooga Choo Choo and Java Jive by Manhattan
Transfer.
This time I have decided to take a song about a parent who lost a child and turn into a song about homosexuality between two NAMBLA members. This round we take on Shinedown's The Crow and the Butterfly. I must remind you, the lyrics don't have this sexual innuendo and the intention of Brent Smith was not to write a song about NAMBLA members, but lyrics are subjective and you can read what you want into them.
Here is the song, if you wish to listen along with the lyrics.
I painted your room at midnight [sexual midnight rendezvous]
So I'd know yesterday was over [you left me because I have old balls]
I put all your books on the top shelf [toys, lube, condoms had to be stowed]
Even the one with the four leaf clover [even the green four headed dildo]
Man, I'm getting older [you moved on because I was an old man and you were a young twink]
I took all your pictures off the wall [or computer]
And wrapped them in a newspaper blanket [sent the naked pictures to the recycling bin]
I haven't slept in what seems like a century [because he hasn't had good sex since you]
And now I can barely breathe [without cock in my mouth]
Just like a crow chasing the butterfly [an old man chasing a young twink]
Dandelions lost in the summer skies [I took your virginity]
When you and I were getting high as outer space [thanks to poppers]
I never thought you'd slip away
I guess I was just a little too late
Your words still serenade me [young tight body and long slender penis]
Your lullabies won't let me sleep [can't sleep without tasting you]
I've never heard such a haunting melody [your body still gets me hard]
Oh, it's killing me [I need you back]
You know I can barely breathe

We have an on-going segment here called "Reading Too Much into Lyrics" (you can find them all here). But I have decided to look at lyrics that really make no sense. If you craft a good enough song musically, lyrics don't matter. The Beatles ob-la-di ob-la-da is the perfect example of that. My first foray into this will be Autograph's Turn Up the Radio. I'm working hard, you're working too We do it every day For every minute I have to work ...

WTF is this?

Wow!, this was a real quality post. In theory I'd like to write like this too - taking time and real effort to make a good article... but what can I say... I keep putting it off and never seem to get something done.
