U2 Postpones Dates Due to Bono Back Surgery
Over the weekend Bono had emergency back surgery. He suffered an injury while warming up for U2's upcoming summer stadium tour. The back surgery and subsequent recovery, has forced the cancellation of all North American tour dates starting on June 3 in Salt Lake City to July 19 in New Jersey.
Live Nation has confirmed that the tour dates will be rescheduled for 2011. If you already purchased tickets, those tickets will be honored at the make-up show. However, I am pissed off. I am not pissed off at the fact the tour was postponed. That shit happens all the time and I don't want a lazy Bono in a wheelchair
My anger rises when I think that I bought tickets to this show in August 2009. That is almost a full year in advance. Now with the postponement, I will have bought tickets almost two years in advance. Live Nation/Ticketmaster have been sitting on our money...probably in some escrow account, making money on our money. My tickets were only General Admission and cost 55.00, but there were other tickets that were almost 400.00. That is a substantial sum for Live Nation and Ticketmaster to be sitting on for a full year.
What happened to the days where tickets went on sale about three months before the show? You heard that Black Sabbath was coming to town in August and you went down to the box office and stood in line. You remember those days? Those halcyon days are long gone. Now we are charged out the ass for "convenience fees," "security fees," etc. I ranted about those fees in the past. You can read that informative article here. But sitting on my money for two years, is just another reason to hate Live Nation/Ticketmaster.
Get better Bono. I want to see this massive stage show. I guess I will have to wait until 2011.
