Slash Finally Talks Break Up of Velvet Revolver

Slash finally spoke out abut the reason Velvet Revolver has called it quits. The band broke up shortly after the Libertad album and Scott Weiland just quit. Slash talked to Spinner about the breakup.

"VELVET REVOLVER was intended to be a lot of fun and we started off having a great time, but I think that we all had a lot of chemical issues as that thing wore on," Slash told Spinner. "I definitely went way down the fucking drain for a minute there after the 'Contraband' record [debut VELVET REVOLVER CD] came out and we went on tour for two years.

"During the 'Contraband' tour I started drinking heavily and revisited my opiate passion, then had to come out of it so eventually I had to say that's it. Certainly Scott had his issues, even Duff [McKagan, bass] and Matt [Sorum, drums] went down the same road. The only one that stayed sober during the whole thing was fucking Dave Kushner.

"We all eventually came out of it and made the 'Libertad' record, which I thought, musically, was a good record but we lost Scott and we never regained that. I thought the overall spirit of everything was declining at that point so by the end of the last tour Scott was here and we were here [motions with hands in different places] and cancelling that Australian tour was the final blow."

This just confirms what we basically thought all along. We saw Velvet Revolver on various occasions. They started out dangerous and teetering on chaos, but that is what made them great. But on the Libertad tour they were lazy, Scott was disinterested, and the band wasn't as tight as they had been. It was disappointing for fans who hadn't seen the first/second tour of Velvet Revolver.

I hope they fill in the singer position with Miles Kennedy of Alter Bridge. His tracks on Slash's solo record are they best ones. His vocal control and power would bring something new and fresh to the band.

However, we have said this a lot, we believe Velvet Revolver is done. Duff McKagen is off playing bass for Jane's Addiction, Slash is doing his own solo thing, Scott is back with Stone Temple Pilots, Matt Sorum is fucking groupies, and Dave Kushner is the day manager at Target in Wilmington, DE. So everyone just has their own things going on.

Here is a track with Kennedy and Slash from Slash's solo record.
