Lilith Fair Suffers Soft Ticket Sales
Hey male readers of Blogs N' Roses? Did you get your tickets to the
Lilith Fair? Neither did any other male in the world apparently and
Sarah McLachlan is bitching about soft ticket sales.
"There's about 300 seats out of 16,000 or whatever that are $250," she told Billboard. "Then there's 9,000 that are $25, so come on."
According to Spinner, the Lilith Fair group is trying to find ways of lowering tickets. But they are still not addressing the main reason ticket sales are lagging.
This festival started as a great idea, empowering female rockers in an industry dominated by males. It showed women can do just about anything a guy can do, except lift heavy objects and earn a decent wage. They have excellent skills like soft hands for massaging a man's back after a long hard day at work, and cooking. Wait, I just scribed myself. Now I am obligated to go to the Lilith Fair.
I really do think the Lilith Fair was important, but it has become a shell of what it was before. Despite being in locations no were near the water, it still smells like a seaside festival. It is unapologetically female centric. But a lot of women have moved on from the singer songwriters like Sarah McLachlan and Jill Scott. If they really wanted to sell tickets, they should have included MGMT, Keane, The Goo Goo Dolls, or Maroon 5. Unfortunately, they are male bands and by proxy are not invited.
A festival that alienates 1/2 the population is doomed to fail. In a rough economy where people need to really justify paying for concerts, you can't have a festival that doesn't pander to the middle woman. The Go-Gos were a great teeny bopper band in the 80's, but they are as relevant today as the common knowledge Lars Wettner needs to shit immediately after inhaling a Geno's cheesesteak. You don't care about Lars Wettner's colon cleansing and you couldn't care about The Go-Go's.
Here is another problem with the festival, a revolving door of musicians. While some dates get popular artists like Chris Brown's Punching Bag (Rihanna for those unfamiliar with pop culture) and Jill Scott, other cities get "Special Guest," Anjulie, and Zee Avi. If you are asking, who the fuck are they? You are probably a dude who stomps on women's rights or a female who doesn't give a shit about empowering women.
All dates will have Sarah McLachlan and Kelly Clarkson. Kelly has been a good role model for women. She has refused to lose weight saying she is happy with her body. She has also lashed out at the fact in Indonesia one of her concerts was sponsored by a cigarette company. (link But I am just tossing this out there, smoking is an appetite suppressant Kelly.
I think a weak lineup, high ticket prices, and alienation of men, combine to create a rough summer concert run for the Lilith Fair.
Here are some quick thoughts I could think of to boost concert tickets:
Of course the latter action will be a problem for men because less women with daddy issues will cut down the stripper population.

Here are some quick thoughts I could think of to boost concert tickets:
- Have a big corporate sponsor like Gillette. Gillette will be itching to sell to the Lilith Fair concert go-ers. All that unsightly underarm hair and leg hair longer than my hair. It will be begging to be shaved off when the ladies realize they aren't bull dykes and need to get a job.
- Strippers. No one showcases a woman's spirit and power like a stripper. They can con even a miser out of their hard earned money. This will also get men into the show and give them something they will like.
- Justin Beiber. That 12 year old girl can get other 12 year old girls into the show. You will see out immediately and have a new crop of women to indoctrinate. The little girls will think it is a fun show and will come out with the knowledge needed to kick the pedophiles in the balls and demand a higher allowance from their oppressive father.
Of course the latter action will be a problem for men because less women with daddy issues will cut down the stripper population.
