I was talking with Brian from Fosterchild this weekend about building up a fan base in remote places.Sometimes you have to have a record company to help you get your music out there in remote places like Houston, Texas and Peoria....wherever the fuck Peoria is. He said, sometimes you just need to play those places to help build up that fan base. I countered with the point, how are you going to play those places when you have to pay for hotels? He suggested sexual favors.

You don't have to suck dick to tour across the US, it doesn't hurt, but you don't have to. There is a cool website called Better Than the Van, which hooks musicians up with a network of fun, friendly, only half psychotic people offering their place to stay for a night.

Using Better than the Van, you can bring your music to a larger fan base by not staying in the budget motels. You can play those obscure places and get a place to crash for the night. Better than the Van has folks in all countries too.

The website hooks up people offering a place to stay and people who need a place to stay in many cities and countries across the globe. This should eliminate any unnecessary barriers that exist for upstart bands. Get out there and tour!
