Twisted Sister Never Touring Again - According to Jay Jay French

Twisted Sister's Jay Jay French has informed Noisecreep.com that Twisted Sister will never tour and he was kind of a dick about it. Here are his full statements:

"It will never ever happen. I would just assume things would maybe happen, but we will never tour (again). I look at the mathematics of it every year, the mathematics makes no sense. None. Every year people ask me, every year I revisit the math. Every year it completely makes no sense to tour. It's just an incredibly money-losing proposition. I don't like losing money.

"I know what these (other) bands make, I know their lifestyle, I know what they do. I can't function that way. I don't believe it's viable for them. I believe they (tour) because they really have no other options on this planet. And by going out on the road constantly, they devalue themselves because they're out there all the time.

"We work in a completely separate business model. If I don't play, guess what? My value increases, doesn't it? So the less I play, the more valuable I become. So I work completely opposite. I'll bet you I make more money playing 12 shows than most (other) bands make playing 50 shows."

While the statements are true, they were delivered like a true prick. "I know what these bands make, I know their lifestyle, I know what they do. I can't function that way."

Well you used to French, you used to tour incessantly because that is how you made your living. You are able to do one or two shows and a couple of festivals because you built your hardcore fan base through touring.

"..by going out on the road constantly, they devalue themselves..."

Sure every band wishes they could only perform four times a year and get paid a shit load, but who the hell in New York City is going to come out and see The Dick Gobblers without them touring and building that fanbase. The current industry is set up where the artist is fucked on record sales and can only make a buck through merchandising and touring.

If I want to be a band that makes it, I have to tour incessantly. To tour incessantly, I need a fucking label to back the band and sleazy managers/promoters to book the band. Then I have to hope and pray at the end of the day I am not fucked. So yea, the whole system if fucked, but I don't need guys who made it to flaunt how they only have to do 12 shows a year.

"I'll bet you I make more money playing 12 shows than most (other) bands make playing 50 shows"

That statement really pissed me off. Your band has a rabid NYC (and surrounding area) fan base. You sold a metric ton of records in the 80's and your front man is Mr. VH1 and House of Hair.

You have maximum visibility thanks to Dee and because of that have the LUXURY of playing only a few days a year. Well hard working artists don't have that fan base or the name recognition. So they have to tour 50 cities in the hopes maybe just 10% of the fans like them and buy their shirts.

I would have hoped that, you Jay Jay French, of all people, would know what you did and what you sacrificed to garner that luxury. It isn't an easy business and to tack on those insensitive comments is myopic at best.

You do put on a hell of a show though. (Review of Christmas show)
