Soundgarden to Play Lollapalooza This Summer
We originally reported on the Soundgarden reunion. It was a not-so-secret secret. Then a few suits were pissed off that Chris Cornell blew the lid off the announcement and tried to make you THINK there was no Soundgarden reunion. Well it is now as official as it can get. Soundgarden will headline this year's Lollapalooza.
If you have been following us, we also revealed the tentative lineup for the festival. We are so smart! Actually the entire list of performers is below. We are not here to blow ourselves, mainly because I haven't had that extra rib removed. I am here to opine about the implications a Soundgarden reunion has.
The first question we all want to know is there going to be a bigger tour. My sources say yes. Probably late fall/winter arena tour with a summer tour to follow. Will there be another Soundgarden album? My sources are divided on this one. Half think yes, but I am in the NO camp. I do believe this is merely cash grab.
Soundgarden was a great Seattle grunge band, but in the coming months the media will begin the fellating. You will hear how Soundgarden epitomized the Seattle scene (they didn't, but were a big part). Most of those people will have interviews scheduled with the band and feel the need to say nice things to ensure the interview holds. We don't get big stars to interview, so I can say whatever the fuck I want. For the next couple of months, you will hear a shitload of Soundgarden on the radio, look for stories about the other members of Soundgarden - not Chris Cornell and what they did post breakup. HINT: They did other music work (Matt Cameron is the drummer of Pearl Jam.) You will probably be Soundgarden-ed out by the time they announce a full tour in late summer. Try to stick with it. They are a great band with excellent records and songs.
