The Scorpions Call It Quits
I waited on this news because I thought it was a joke. A band that has essentially been around since 1965 and still releasing quality albums, you just don't expect to up and leave. But it seems that is the case with The Scorpions and you can thank their manager.
Guitarist Rudolf Schenker tells AOL the band was in the middle of a listening party for Sting in the Tail when their longtime manager came up with the idea for the band mates to go their separate ways.
He says, "He had the idea to finish the band on a high note, with this record. At first, we thought he was joking but then we noticed he was completely being serious. And it turns out, he was right.
"Sting in the Tail [Scorpions latest record] sounds like a classic Scorpions album, so we decided to leave after we get done touring it since it's such a powerful record."
But then in the press release I saw this:
They are embarking on a two-year farewell tour before hanging up their leather jackets after 40 years.
Hmm, could this be like KISS where they say "THIS IS IT! BUY YOUR TICKETS NOW!! LAST CHANCE TO SEE THE SCORPIONS!!!!ELEVENTY!!ONE"
Then the plebs run out and think "ZOMG I won't get the chance to hear the Scorpions ever again. I better buy my tickets now."
KISS has used this philosophy for years. Every tour they do is their last one. I think they are on Farewell tour 69 now.
But there are some people who believe in "going out at the top." I never thought Barry Sanders would stay retired, but he has. Perhaps the Scorpions will stick to their word and decide to disband. Now if only I could convince Nickelback to do the same.

For a manager to suggest to his clients to hang it up really makes no sense. Perhaps the manager wants to retire. He'll be no longer collecting fees for touring , and the like so whats the deal? As you all know in this day and age most of stature bands of this stature don't call it quits. If they need a break or just don't feel like touring or recording they simply drop off the radar. Some time goes by and suddenly their they are gearing up for something. Most times the band sounds better than the last because of the break.Ronnie James Dio is in his 60's and has no intentions of retiring, and why should he. Perhaps they are taking the kiss road. Sometimes bands just change their minds. Sometimes it a money issue but either way it serves no real purpose to say THIS IS IT. The people who did not see your last tour are likely not going to see your final one. Besides The whole Farewell thing does not always go as planned. The Scorps know this Im sure. I wish them the best regardless of their decision. Thanks for the memories. Even though matthias jabs hit on my girl while standing next to her. Your one of the greats.
J.
