Haiti Vows to Rebuild This City

Every major crisis needs a theme song. African Hunger had We Are the World and Live Aid. Katrina had When the Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin, and now the Haitian Earthquake has one - Jefferson Starship's We Built This City.

Haitian President of Infrastructure, Miguel Petithomme said, "Disney motivated those midgets by creating a song "Whistle While You Work." The midgets had no idea that the back breaking labor they were doing in the diamond mines were harming their bodies. We need that kind of motivation to help rebuild our country."

Miguel sat in his office as the Earthquake hit and prayed to God for a sign, just any sign, that things would be ok. That is when the only radio station in Port Au Prince WPAP Machiavelli decided to play the Jefferson Starship classic We Built This City.

Programming Director Jean Michel Baptiste said, "We really didn't have any control over this. That song had been programmed to run at that time since Sunday."

Whatever the reason that song spoke to Miguel. "I just kept thinking as I was pressed under a desk, we will have to rebuild this city and we will rebuild it on ROCK N' ROLL!"

How can an entire country undertake such a daunting task with only the help of Rock N' Roll? Well stranger things have been built using just rock n' roll to motivate the workers (slave labor).

In Cairo, tombs have been found with hieroglyphics depicting slave drivers singing, while the slaves happily build the pyramids.

Archaeologist Missouri Smith validated this finding: "We know that the Egyptians sometimes held American Idol like contests to see which singer was the best at not only singing, but motivating the slaves to work all day in the hot sun. We jokingly call those competitions "Egyptian Idol."

It is possible that rock n' roll can effectively motivate an entire nation of people - especially a nation as strong willed and deep rooted in faith as Haiti. Jefferson Starship was only building a city on rock n' roll. Petithomme is looking to rebuild an entire nation on rock n' roll. Only time will tell if he can be successful.
