Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame to Down Time Requirement to 20 Years
According to Roger Friedman of Showbiz 411, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
is considering changing its charter that says that in order to be
inducted, a band or act isn't eligible until 25 years have passed since
its first record release. By altering the rules so that it only takes
20 years to get in, a lot of acts on the ballot that are more current
and carry some name value would then be eligible for the 2011 ceremony:
GUNS N' ROSES, GREEN DAY, PUBLIC ENEMY, NIRVANA, KID ROCK and SMASHING PUMPKINS.
My feelings on the Rock N' Roll hall of fame are simple. Make it about actual Rock N' Roll and those who influenced it. There is no way ABBA should be in a fucking Rock N' Roll hall of fame. The hall voting is about who they think will get the most TV views without actually being about the integrity of the hall.
Moving it up five years is a cheap ploy to attempt to become relevant again and make headlines. Sure, Guns, Nirvana, Green Day, and the Pumpkins should be in the hall, but they need to wait their turn. Besides in five years GnR might be ready to actually get back together and do a full tour.
I didn't put Kid Rock or Public Enemy in that list. That came from the 411 dude. Kid Rock only deserves to be in the IHOP hall of fame for biggest "celebrity" involved in an altercation at an IHOP.
There are still viable and deserving options....Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, Rush, Motorhead, etc. Why would you continue to snub these great bands just to make a few headlines now. Soon The Jonas Brothers will be eligible and that rag mag will be slap them into the hall.
