Rage Finally Gets The Machine
Thanks to the jolly old chaps in England, Rage Against the Machine has topped the UK Christmas sales chart. The Christmas season has been mostly dominated by X-Factor's latest slop and whatever single they have out at the time.
In case you don't know, X-Factor is the British version of American Idol. So like here, they are manufactured, but polished turds. An Essex couple, decided to rally against that by starting a Facebook page. They wanted to get Rage Against the Machine's Killing in the Name at the top of the holiday charts...and they won.
RATM's 1993 song “Killing in the Name” sold more than half a million copies, beating Joe McElderry’s cover of Miley Cyrus’s “The Climb” by 50,000 sales.
Tom Morello had this to say about all of it:
‘It’s trying to save the UK pop charts for this abyss of bland mediocrity. don’t believe it has anything to do with Simon Cowell personally. I like that guy. He’s a great entertainer. He’s going to do fine with his No. 2 this Christmas. What you’re seeing is real democracy."
All royalties from the sale of the single will be donated to the homeless charity Shelter.
