Them Crooked Vultures New Fang Song Review
Them Crooked Vultures are a "supergroup" consisting of legendary Led Zeppelin John Paul Jones on bass, Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal) on lead guitar and vocals, and Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) on drums. They just released their new song entitled New Fang. (You can hear it below)
The song is a mix mash of riffs. It really can't decide if it wants to be a Queens of the Stone Age song or not. It starts out with a typical Dave Grohl power bombast on the drums and a Queens of the Stone Age 3's and 7's guitar sound. But the song really doesn't stop aping the sound of Queens. Even the singing on this track by Homme reflects the sound from the latest QOTSA record.
I know it is going to be influenced by Queens of the Stone Age because Homme is QOTSA, but I was hoping that the three men would meld something new, fresh, and different. This is only one song and maybe others will sound different or showcase a varied background, but New Fang sounds like John Paul Jones playing bass on the latest Queens of the Stone Age album.

You're missing the whole point. It sounds GOOD. It is fresh, it is new. It is complicated kick ass, rock and roll as is QOTSA. It rocks my socks off and that is what really counts.
