Jack White Subtly Insults Bob Dylan and Tom Waits?

Well Jack White, Jesus of Rock N' Roll, recently gave a surprise lecture at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.

White talked to the oldest Philosophical Society in the World about his musical beliefs. When talking about authenticity and anxiety, he had the following thing to say about Bob Dylan and Tom Waits.

"I don’t know if Bob Dylan and Tom Waits are as authentic as I think they are. Perhaps they’re not."

He added: "Sometimes you start thinking that maybe Britney Spears or someone like that who’s doing exactly what they want to do in the way that they best know how, is more authentic than any of those people you could mention."

A lot of people suck the cock of Jack White, I am one who sits back and voyeuristically watches the knob gobbling while occasionally indulging in masturbation. I own all White Stripes albums and love them, if they are a bit droning. I have both Raconteurs albums and feel they are better than some of the White Stripes material.

This quote has been received with OUTRAGE in various music boards online. "BUT BUT HOW CAN JACK WHITE DISRESPECT DYLAN AND WAITS?" Fools.

Bob Dylan is portraying an image. Is Bob Dylan his real name? No, so is the work of Bob Dylan the true feelings of Robert Zimmerman? Probably not. I feel that Dylan is who Zimmerman wants to be or desires to be, but can't quite be for some reason or another. I feel the same for Waits.

But Brittney Spears sings about partying, having sex, and more partying, well how different is that from her real life? It isn't. So her words (although written by someone else) are a reflection of her real life. She is, in a sense, being authentic to who she is.

It is Bob Dylan who is the voice of the flower generation, not Robert Zimmerman. So I agree with Jack White on this. Brittney Spears is more authentic than Bob Dylan or Tom Waits in the fact that her public persona lines up with her real persona. Or maybe it is all just dust in the wind.
