Ringtones Are Ruining Music According to ASCAP

Ok, today I am an on an anti-record company rant. Recently, there was a lawsuit saying that cellphones were a virtual concert because when they go off, the ringtone can be heard by many other "copyright infringers" around the owner of the ringtone. That was the claim by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, known as ASCAP.

ASCAP was attempting at getting more royalties from the purchasers of ringtones than they already get. (Your $1.99 charge already includes the royalties for that song) Luckily a smart judge said "fuck you." (You can read the decision but I warn you...it is legalese)

ASCAP is grasping at straws thanks to you music sharers and THIEVES! You are buying your ringtone and then parading it around NYC letting the 12 million inhabitants listen to it.

I am not really a fan of ringtones, but if someone wants to have Journey's Don't Stop Believing announce their mother is calling them, they have that right. My ringtone is an actual telephone ringing, but I am old fashioned and also Apple won't let me have any of my porn music be a ringtone. Fuck you too Apple!

Get used to these kinds of lawsuits. As the record companies/ASCAP fail to make their profit margins, they will use their expensive lawyers to squeeze the cents out of you. Don't let them!

You can read more about the case in laymans terms here.
