Billy Corgan Finds New Smashing Pumpkins Drummer
Billy Corgan has found his new drummer - a 19 year old who is moretalented than you and more mature. The kid knows his shit too. Checkthis out:
Billy Corgan has announced that Mike Byrne has joined the Smashing Pumpkins as their new drummer. The 19-year-old Portland, Oregon native will make his debut with the band on the Pumpkins' next album — about which a major announcement is expected in September — and tour.
"I think if you're born a drummer, you know you're going to be a drummer for your entire life" "I've always thought that Billy's interpretation of music was areal fresh one, and that because the band was so rooted in the idea ofkind of being like a musical shape-shifter, I feel that honestly itwould work just perfectly. It's not so much that I have some freshpoint of view that he's not already investigating so much as every timethey release something it's sort of a new direction and so working withhim is easy in that we're not operating on any founded musicalprincipals. We're starting from scratch and just working our influencesup into something totally different."
So what does Corgan have to say about Mike?
"Through the open audition process, I was astounded by how many greatdrummers there were that wanted the chance to try out for the Pumpkins. We counted over 1,000 submissions, and what made Mikestand out was he just seemed to have that 'X' factor that all the greatdrummers have, a stunning blend of power, speed, and grace. I'm excitedto work with him moving forward—he truly deserves this opportunity. Ibelieve in my heart he will push me to be a better musician."
Nowthat is a statement.Billy Jimmy Chamberlain was one of THOSE drummers, adrummer who could potentially be irreplaceable. A drummer who when gonefrom the band, you notice. Could Mike fill Chamberlain's shoes?Probably not, as I just stated Chamberlain was irreplaceable, but thekid knows music and Corgan is a great judge of talent. I think for thefirst time since they broke up, I am excited to hear what new SmashingPumpkins might sound like.

That's true...only his name is JIMMY Chamberlain....
That is what I get for not proofreading. I, of course, knew that but we don't pay you to be our editor for nothing.
