U2 Talk about Spider-Man Musical
U2 singer Bono and guitarist The Edge talk about writing the songs for the upcoming Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark
in a new video interview posted at the show's official website.
The show, based on the classic Marvel Comics character that has also been the subject of three blockbuster movies, is slated to open on February 18th, 2010. Bono said about getting involved with the project, "We were open to the idea of musical theater, but Spider-Man, that's a different thing again, because that's comic books, and there's a whole series of relations between punk rock and rock bands and comic books, that goes back years."
I saw the video and this looks like it's going to be a colossal waste. I love Spider-Man, I love U2, I love musical theater, I thought the combination of these three was a brilliant idea. After watching the teasing video, I don't think so anymore. It looks like it's going to be a failure.
The Edge also said that rock musicians could relate to the story of Spider-Man's alter ego, Peter Parker, explaining, "Every rock and roll star probably started out as the geek who got bullied on in school, and eventually their form of revenge was to write songs or learn to play guitar."
Ah yes, I remember the day I was talking to Sebastian Bach and he told us that he remembers a key time when he was bitten by a radioactive spider and passed out. When he woke up he had the ability to climb walls and shoot webs from his wrists. Then he went on to fight super villains like The Demon and Star Child in his ever growing quest to collect all of KISS' memorabilia.
