Could Jeff Beck Have Been a Rolling Stone? Survey Says: NO
Jeff Beck was once asked to join the infamous Rolling Stones after Mick Taylor left the band in 1974.
Jeff explained to Word magazine: "I had this flash that said, 'Don't do it, you'll never get on with Mick and Keith musically because you're heading in a different direction'. There's the thing. There's the crossroads. If I'd turned left I'd have been a multi-millionaire Rolling Stone - and dead.
"On the right I'm here, thank you. Not that I wouldn't want to experience some of the things that went on with them but I was into speed and detail and gung-ho playing - and the way they were drinking I just don't think it would have worked.
"I thought, 'This is a life of booze and women. Who needs that?' So I caught the next plane out."
Sign me up. I can't play guitar, I can't hold my liquor, and I have a penis the size of a mouse, but damn that would have been fun. I guess Jeff had all he took take from rockstar egos when he played with Rod Stewart. Plus all the hot women Rod passed aside, I'm sure Jeff got. He probably didn't need the Stones to pull in the tail. Also Jeff shouldn't be second fiddle to Keith Richards. Beck is in the hall of fame as a guitarist on his own merits. But it would have been fun to hear the collaborations.
