Sonic Shock's Lords of Pussy EP Review
Sonic Shock sent a few songs to us for review consideration. They are currently in the studio working on a full length album or EP or sacrificing virgins. You judge what they are doing because I couldn't figure out that answer from their MySpace site. It makes things easier for us to refer to an EP by name. But, Sonic Shock just sent us the songs. Thus, Sonic Shock's "Lords of Pussy" EP album review shall commence. The Lords of Pussy EP starts out with "Don't Tell Me How to Rock." This song sounds like it was recorded in my local dive bar. It reeks of stale beer, month old peanuts, and your tube socks full of your "wasted hours" at the computer. That's a semen reference! This track has everything, guitar solos, a chanted repetitve chorus I can remember when completely wasted on vodka, and a Sweet Emotion talk box ending. I can easily see this song going over well in a live setting with everyone drinking and having a great time. Except Dave Mustaine, he's an angry drunk.
Speaking of Dave Mustaine, the next track "Elvis" sounds like Black Sabbath had a baby with Black Label Society. Then Megadeth had a baby with Aerosmith. Then those two babies fucked and created "Elvis." Despite the song title, this isn't about The King of Rock N' Roll. It seems to be about what women want or need. Apparently, they need dick. Who knew? This song has a chugging guitar, a bass line and drum line like Black Sabbath, and the vocal stylings of Dave Mustaine and Axl Rose's baby. The song even has a great Iron Man like guitar solo.
The final track on Lords of Pussy, is Midnight Lover. This song sounds like Guns N' Roses and the Union Dead (the greatest Philadelphia band no longer in existence). This song has the greatest lyrics as the protagonist of the song tries to find a girl for the evening and fills her head with all kinds of sweet things like "Don't be shy, bring along another friend. I'll keep grinding even when I'm tired" and "your momma wants you to get a college degree, well don't listen because they are lyin' you gotta keep rockin' till the day you die."
If Lords of Pussy is any indication, this band will be one of our favorites in no time. Go to Sonic Shock's MySpace site and see what you think. Also you can keep track of their studio updates and if they knifed any Canadian drifters recently.
