Now take a listen to Coldplay's Viva La Vida.



The melodies are very similar, but one is for piano, one is for guitar, the last is for strings. Could it be that the melodies and cord progressions are so basic that ANYONE could have put them together?  I don't know.

Cat Stevens isn't going to sue (yet), but he would have to sue Satriani and Coldplay for ripping his melody off. This really helps Coldplay against Joe Satriani as there is an established record of the same melodies in different time periods.

Case dismissed.
