Could the Rolling Stones Fire Ron Wood?

What would the Rolling Stones be without Ron Wood? They would still be the Greatest Rock n Roll band on this planet, they just wouldn't have that pizazz though.

Why would I even ask such a ridiculous question? Well Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Mick Jagger have given Ronnie an ultimatum of sorts — curb the drinking or be kicked off the proposed Autumn leg of the United States Rolling Stones tour.

A source told Britain’s Daily Express newspaper: “All the band have to have a compulsory pre-tour medical to make sure they can get insurance.

“Ronnie failed his medical for the 2002/2003 tour because he was drinking seven times the recommended number of alcohol units a week. He had to spend months drying out at a clinic in Arizona.

"There are worries that could be the case again this time."

The Stones used to tour every year, but then they got older and started touring every three to four years. This spacing between concerts is probably good for concert attendees because it gives the average Stones fan a time to recuperate the ridiculous ticket prices. In those three years, the fan could pay off their loan they had to take out to afford $450.00 a seat tickets.

But they just toured in 2007 and are again planning a tour in 2009? That is a quick turn around and that inside source has probably explained why...The Rolling Stones need insurance. They are getting older and physicals and CT Scans, and prostate exams are expensive if you don't have insurance. So the Stones are touring to cut the cost on the average prostate exam.

But back to the topic at hand, I am sure Ron Wood will get his act together. He is probably tired of banging his 20 year old waitress girlfriend (source) and will need some young road poon.

Thank God, his reign of terror may be over. Someone take Mick Taylor out of mothballs if they don't find a replacement on a reality tv show.

Why don't they get a really famous and great british guitar player. Someone new. Imagine the stones with Eric Clapton or Jeff Beck. David Gilmour? Or the ultimate rock and roll fantasy Jimmy Page. And seeming as they don't even have a steady bassist he could bring JP Jones with him. Imagine the media headlines Stones meet Zeppelin. I think the merging of these two incredible forces would breathe new life into this group. I know it most likely won't happen but I hope if they need a new guitarist they give Page a call.

Thank you for your blog and interesting info about my favorite musicians. I really appreciate such resources where people write about real life, real problems, real joy... Though I spend much time in the Internet, cannot always find something fresh and worthy to read. Even news articles (which I mostly find at http://rapid4me.com search engine) do not always contain interesting info.

I heard recently that Keith Richards is working with Jack White, and that he might produce the next stones album. Fire Wood, and hire Jack White to play guitar and write and sing and produce. I bet he'd do something great with the stones. And make Daryll Jones an official member already, he has earned it hasn't he?
