Green Day Give New Album A Name
Green Day has given a name to their American Idiot follow up. It will be called 21st Century Breakdown according to their official Website, will be released in May.
But American Idiot was a "pop punk opera" around a suburban existence. What will 21st Centrury Breakdown be about? Let me tell you. According to AP magazine, the new LP will feature 16 songs spread across three Acts: Heroes and Cons, Charlatans and Saints and Horseshoes and Handgrenades. Among the reported song titles include the title track, “Viva La Gloria,” “Know Your Enemy” and “March of the Dogs.”
Methinks they are trying a bit too hard to doll up the same three chords they play all the time. I listened to American Idiot three times before realizing that album was a "pop punk opera." Here I was used to The Who's Tommy and Quadrophenia, where I can pick up the disc and right away understand it is a story. I had to be told by Joe Wettner that the album was actually an opera...and I still don't really believe him.
I will give the band the benefit on this. Impress me Green Day.
