Grammy Award Recap

The Grammy Awards are over and I can't remember who won or lost any of the awards. I saw the Kings of Leon, Metallica, and The Mars Volta won, but I really didn't care about the awards. I was more interested in the performances.

One thing the Grammys actually do right is they don't have some goofy or annoying host who tries to be funny and topical with jokes written by wet mop Bruce Vilanch. The show moves along through a collection of presenters and all of the awards and commercials are anchored by performances.

The performances are more about the promotion of this years Grammy award nominees and they usually have an act like U2 kick it off so people will tune in.

The interesting moment of the evening came five minutes before the Grammy Awards were set to air and the announcement came that Rihanna and Chris Brown were not performing. This left the Grammy people struggling to fill not one but two spots with live acts. Enter Justin Timberlake. He is the talented man du jour who filled in for both Rihanna and Chris Brown. First he and Keith Urban joined with Al Green to perform Al's classic, "Let's Stay Together." Next Justin joined T.I. on stage for a performance of T.I.'s hit, <enter T.I.'s hit here>

Those live acts stand out above the rest because Timberlake had literally minutes to throw together two very different performances. He was able to do it flawlessly. I am not the biggest Timberlake fan, but he gets the nod after last night.

U2 kicked the show off with their new single "Get On Your Boots." I still don't like the song even live. It is just not that great. The lyrics are gibberish, the guitars are erratic, and the whole song is just a mess. Not something you would expect from such a talented band.

I missed the one performance I was excited to see because I was stretching to try and suck my own penis again. That performance was the Paul McCartney/Dave Grohl collaboration. I will look for a video of it online and post it later for those who were also trying to fellate themselves.

The final award of the night was Album of the Year and this was a no brainer. The nominees were Viva La Vida by Coldplay, Tha Carter III, by Lil Wayne, Raising Sand, by Alison Krauss/Robert Plant, Year of the Gentleman by Ne-Yo, and In Rainbows by Radiohead.

Coldplay was eliminated after they were accused of plagiarism by Joe Satriani. Lil Wayne had no shot as a rapper. Radiohead was eliminated because of the usual method of distribution that gave a giant middle finger to the established recording process of distribution. This category came down to Ne-Yo and Plant/Krauss. And Raising Sand won.

Is it a better album than Ne-Yo? I have no fucking clue who Ne-Yo is. But I heard Raising Sand and it's not bad.
