Razorblade Skin Philadelphia Concert Review 01.31.2009
I am writing this review hopped on Tylenol Cold, so this may be the worst review I have written...or the best. I have no idea how this is going to go.
On Saturday January 31, 2009, Razorblade Skin played The Balcony at the Trocadero. Have any of you seen The Neverending Story? Remember when Bastian Bux takes The Neverending Story and runs to the schools attic? Yea, Razorblade Skin played that attic on Saturday night. And just like in the Neverending Story, there were a usual cast of characters.
Bastian Bux was played by your fearless writers where we got to watch and witness the spectacle that is a Razorblade Skin show. Atreyu is played by our fearless leader and all around good guy Mike. Mikey is the main man behind Razorblade Skin. And what Neverending Story reference wouldn't be complete without a Falkor reference. So here he is:

Ok, I am only joking. That is the Blue Meanie from WWE fame and he looks like Nikki Sixx. Please don't kill me!
These journalists are used to shows starting at the time printed on the ticket, which read 8pm. So we arrived at 7:30 and got to witness the smelliest, most disgusting collection of Philadelphia degenerates we have ever seen. The smell can be described as body order, unshowered youth, booze, and drugs. It took the Trocadero one full hour to finally shed the filth.
The band playing the actual Trocadero was called Amebix, a Motorhead like band. The show must have started at 3 PM because it was over by 8:00. I am not sure what kind of show starts at 3PM on a Saturday, but their fans like to get fucked up on drugs.
After a while of waiting around, Razorblade Skin finally took the stage at 11:45. Smoke filled the air, laser lights swirled and the band ripped into their first song. You can see by the picture below, there was a lot of smoke:

The band played every song off their EP and they each sounded amazing. The guitar work was stellar, the bass and drums were in rhythm and Mikey's voice was the perfect growling serenade.

The band ripped through "Molly", "Vampires", "You're the One", and concluded with a cover song of the Primadonnaz classic "King of the Drag Queens." The band is excellent and put on a very entertaining show. I don't know how often they do shows, but when they do, go and see them live. We will make sure to inform you of when they are performing next.
Any picture you see in the review you can click to enlarge.
I don't know who this guy is below, but he wins coolest leather jacket painting. Glamicidal kicks ass.

Where does this demand for filthy comes from? I don't think I could ever enjoy this kind of events, they promote what's the worst in people, no wonder most rock artists have drug problems, they are actually trying to create a drug culture through everything they do.
