Lars Ulrich To Drum for Deep Purple?
Lars Ulrich has thrown his name into the swirling Deep Purple reunion vat. We haven't covered it here, but Deep Purple members, David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, and Jon Lord have said they wouldn't mind touring as Deep Purple. But they have said that drummer, Ian Paice would not be part of the tour. ENTER ULRICH!
Lars has stated the following: "They just need a drummer. I'll volunteer myself for that... David Coverdale has my number."
Ok, this mixes a bit of the Deep Purple lineups and I am going to attempt to tell you about the band. The band has had so many incarnations and rebirths it is like Madonna's career. Each lineup has been affectionately termed Mark I-VIII or MK1 for short hand notation.
The original Mk lineup was:
Rod Evans (vocals)
Richie Blackmore (guitars)
Nick Simper (Bass)
Ian Paice (Drums)
Jon Lord (Keyboards)
This lineup broke into the mainstream with this hit:
Mk II lineup had the following:
Ian Gillan (vocals)
Ritchie Blackmore (guitars)
Roger Glover (Bass)
Ian Paice (Drums)
Jon Lord (Keyboards)
This lineup released the album Machine Head, which spawned the following monster hits:
The MkIII lineup was:
David Coverdale (vocals)
Ritchie Blackmore (guitars)
Glenn Hughes (Bass)
Ian Paice (drums)
Jon Lord (keyboards)
This lineup never produced a monster hit like Smoke on the Water, but had an excellent album entitled Burn. Now I only wish the media would report WHICH Deep Purple lineup is going to reunite. So the lineup that wants to reunite is the MKIII lineup.
