Dave Navarro Loves Chinese Democracy
Now that the five part interview with Rich Mullins from the Year Long Disaster is out of the way, we can focus on bringing you music news. Let's get caught up. First up, Dave Navarro loves Guns N' Roses new album Chinese Democracy. He must not have heard Nickelback's new album Dark Horse though. (article)
A fan asked Dave through his official website what he thought of the new Chinese Democracy album and if he had the chance to listen to it all the way through. Navarro responded:
"I have to say that I pretty much love it. The way I have been describing it has been 70% awesome and 30% really weird, but after a few listens the weird becomes awesome again. I don't know if it's the songs or the fact that I just enjoy hearing that guy's [Axl Rose] voice or both, but I am a fan. It's not GN'R as we know it. It feels more like an Axl solo record, probably because as music lovers we were able to get a feel for the old GN'R dynamics and the personalities of each member in the band. I know very little about this band so it's hard to connect with each member sonically like I did before. People have been commenting on how long it took to make, but I kind of don't believe he was working on all THESE songs the whole time. I'm sure there have been versions, stuff that got scrapped, breaks, lineup changes, personal time. I'm speculating, of course, but having worked on so many projects, I know that there are a million things that go down before you even decide on the track listing."
He is right. The album isn't bad and has some great stuff on it. You should listen to it. Forget what you know about the REAL Guns N' Roses (the real Guns N' Roses has been dead since 1996) and approach this album as an Axl Rose solo project with hired guns. [pun intended]. If you can do that, you will see this is one of the best albums this year. That is right, that is my bold statement of the year....Chinese Democracy is one of the top ten greatest albums released this year....and Dark Horse is the worst.
