AC/DC Debuts At Number 1 on Billboard
AC/DC have sold over 780,000 units in the U.S. alone. This makes Black Ice, the number one record in the country according to the Billboard Top 200. This is an amazing feat since the album was only sold at Wal-Mart and AC/DC.com.
AC/DC fans are not a lazy bunch, but I am. There isn't a Wal-Mart close to me; Best Buy, Target, Circuit City, are all way closer than a Wal-Mart. That means I would have to drive 30 minutes out of my way to get the CD. If I should pass a Wal-Mart, I will pick it up, but until then I haven't heard it.
I am torn by this news too. I scoffed at the exclusive retailer deal. Why would you want to limit how many people could buy your album? Why not offer it on iTunes to the lazy bastards like myself? With the success of this, is AC/DC right or does their fan base not care about the trek for a new album from their favorite band?
I guess AC/DC is "Exclusive Retailer Case Study 1." It was a resounding success for them. Now let's wait to see if it works for Guns N' Roses when they allegedly release Chinese Democracy in November through Best Buy.
As an aside, AC/DC is number one in 29 other countries including the UK, Germany, Canada, Australia, and many more. They have sold 5 million copies world wide of their album Black Ice. Couple that with the 5 million they sold on their back catalog and the band has sold over 10 million on album sales alone. Good fucking GOD! That is an insane stat. Most bands struggle to sell 100,000 copies, AC/DC sells almost 19 albums a minute. My math could be wrong though.

Didn't see that coming. And fuck Wallmart...and fuck the Phillies!
