After seeing Joe Satriani at the Keswick theater on Sunday (review), I have been interested in this side project he has. He is currently working with Sammy Hagar (Van Halen), Michael Anthony (Van Halen), and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers).

"Sammy and I will go in the studio and finish the record in December, we'll get it mixed in January, it'll be out by April, and come midsummer, we'll go on tour," he said.

Satriani said he's looking forward to revisiting his roots on the project.

"It's a chance to expand what I do, but at the same time, kind of go to the kind of music I used to write before my solo career really took off. Basically, I always saw myself as a guitar player that stood behind the lead vocalist."

Of course, the lead vocalist also happens to be a pretty decent guitarist.

"Yes he is," said Satriani. "And I'm trying to get him to put his guitar on. Sammy really just wants to be the singer — but I'll get him to pick up his guitar."
