AC/DC Vinyl Edition of Black Ice

Independent music stores in the US were pissed that they were unable to sell AC/DC's Black Ice. Some independent stores were able to procure the album through international sales.

One independent music chain recently told Undercover News:

“we have been able to order Black Ice in from Argentina for $8.25 per unit and will be able to sell it for less than the Wal-Mart price.

“We can buy from anywhere,” the store source said. “With technology and international accounts, if a major like SonyBMG America decides they don’t want to do business with us, we will do business with other territories. Why should we allow them to disadvantage our businesses and piss off our customers.”

I guess this forced Sony BMG America to rethink their position a bit. Wal-Mart will still get the CD exclusively, but independent record labels will exclusively get the 7" vinyl version of Black Ice along with the vinyl version of Rock N' Roll Train.

This is good news to me because while I enjoy having the album on my iPod, I would much rather listen to it on high quality vinyl. I will pay the extra money to enjoy the crisp, but crackly sound of great vinyl. Plus, if I can support my local independent music chain in the process, it is a win-win solution.
