Kirk Hammett Not Intimidated by Younger Bands
Revolver Magazine posted their two part interview with the biggest Metal band in the world, Metallica. This time they interviewed Kirk Hammett. Some excerpts are below:
Revolver: Are you guys shocked that you're still the biggest metal band in the world?
Kirk: I'm pretty shocked, yeah. I think about it a lot. I think, Will there ever be a band like us to follow in our footsteps? But then I think about it and I thought, Was there a band to follow in the footsteps of The Rolling Stones? Was there a band to follow in the footsteps of Led Zeppelin? So, maybe I'm just thinking the impossible. But there still needs to be a new modern band that has the impact, and they haven't showed up yet. Or maybe they're out there and I just haven't heard them yet.
Kirk: [...] My brother-in-law came up to me and was like, "Are there any bands who are in their 20s that you guys are intimidated by?" And I thought about it long and hard and I'm like, "No." I wish there was, you know. I wish there was because it would give us a nice challenge and motivate us to maybe step up to their plate, whatever their plate might be. It just hasn't happened yet.
He might be right. We discussed this with Metal Mike in our interview with him. (Interview can be found here). We are all waiting for that next big band. The band that will stand the test of time and reinvigorate music. There are a lot of bands pushing the envelope, but will they be remembered if they don't get that elusive mainstream success? Probably not.
Speaking of being remembered. We started this website in January of 2007. One of the best stories we ever ran was one with Kirk Hammett. He was interviewed by the British Magazine Q. In that interview, he admitted to witnessing his neighbor having sex with his dog. Article here.
I can't see Kirk the same anymore. I just thought he was the eccentric guy of Metallica. He is, but it is probably due to the fact he saw his neighbor in San Francisco have "surprise sex" with his dog.
To be fair to the dog rapist, here is a picture of what the dog was wearing. She was quite the dog slut and was kind of asking for it.
